Auto MYN and 1MTD Views for iPhone

July 11, 2016

The iPhone (and iPad) app TaskTask recently released an update that provides automatic MYN and 1MTD task views on your iPhone. So now it’s even easier to implement the MYN or 1MTD systems when going mobile.

I’ll write more about this in an upcoming newsletter, but the gist of this is that with new releases of TaskTask, you can choose a preset view for either MYN or 1MTD. So you no longer need to hand configure the settings.

More to come. Michael

Hi this is great. One thing the MYN view has is overdue tasks are highlighted red. Since we don’t use the due date on MYN users can go into the view options and make that change manually (deselect highlight overdue)

Thanks vegheadjones for your comment. Actually, I purposely asked for that red color on overdue tasks, and that’s because when using MYN it is useful information. Here’s why: In Outlook, when we ignore the due date, the due date automatically gets set = to the start date. So a red task indicates the start date is older than today. And a non-red task indicates a start date = today. This is important information to know. A non-red task indicates a target now task. And a non-red task color highlights tasks that pop in for the first time, if previously scheduled, which is good to catch sight of. Hope that helps. Michael

Hi Michael, makes sense. Personally I don’t like seeing the red: makes me feel like everything is overdue.

Hi, Michael – I have implemented MYN from your Outlook book (what a fantastic book, I’ve now also purchased Master Your Workday Now and am enjoying it), and now use TaskTask as well – a great find for on the go task management using your method.
All I was looking for yet was a “true way” to change emails to tasks on the go with the iPhone/iPad – I finally thought that there must be way to forward an email to myself and, as long as Outlook is running on my desktop at the office, apply a rule to it to convert it to a task (for example, forward an email to myself, and add “*t*” or whatever you like to the subject, and use an Outlook rule to convert it to a task).
I used Google and found this macro, and it works like a charm: http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/rules/create-task-email-rule/
My rule looks for *t* in the subject, then runs a script to convert that email to a task with a start date of today, also attaches that email as an attachment within the body of the task, then I have the rule mark the email as read and move it to the processed folder (I have to manually move the “original” email into the processed folder). Then I can go into TaskTask and edit the task if needed (subject, dates, priority…).
You do have to digitally sign the macro with SelfCert, and the info how to do this is also on the same website: http://www.slipstick.com/developer/how-to-use-outlooks-vba-editor/
I hope others find this method useful!

Now that Touchdown allows more than one exchange account Is there a way to combine emails into one inbox so MYN can work putting all tasks and events on one exchange account? That is, I’d like to feed email from two accounts into one MYN Outlook setup. I do this now on Desktop Outlook but not with a combined inbox.

Returning my Samsung Note 7 today and am wondering if there is now an adequate Microsoft Exchange client for the iPhone. Currently using the Touchdown app per your recommendation. Thanks in advance.

Yes, the app this blog article is about: TaskTask. At least for tasks. Touchdown good for email. Also look at Preside for email. No single app that does both email and tasks well. Michael
