New Toodledo Features

July 29, 2013

As you may know, Toodledo is the tasks software I recommend you use if you cannot use Windows Outlook. Well, Toodledo has rolled out a ton of new features recently.

Multiple Files with same name in Toodledo

One improvement that may seem minor is actually pretty important: you can now save multiple files with the same file name in your account. This important for a bunch of reasons. One: those of you that have voice mails sent to your e-mail inbox, which you want to convert to tasks; often the attached file has the same name across all messages. Before the newest would overwrite the older ones, but this now works.

Lots of other Toodledo file attachment related news here.

Toodledo Outlines

A new Outlines feature rolled out a number of weeks ago in the online version of Toodledo that allows you to create outlines in Toodledo. This is not a Task outlining feature, but a whole separate list tool with its own tab. See more here.

New iOS Apps

Make sure to update your iOS Toodledo apps because there were some new features released end-of-June time frame like a brighter UI look and improvements to notifications.

Don’t Buy a New Laptop Until Fall

July 24, 2013

If you are thinking of buying a new lightweight PC laptop this summer, hold off. We are at the cusp of a big technology shift. Two things are about to happen.

Windows 8.1: the First Major Upgrade

First, Windows 8.1 rolls out this fall. It’s the first major upgrade to Windows 8 since it came out a year ago, and some say it fixes all that is wrong with its first Windows 8 release. While existing 8 users can always upgrade (and the upgrade process is supposedly very easy), there are some hardware–dependent aspects (like screen resolution) that may make it worthwhile to wait for the new PCs that have it pre-installed.

Intel Haswell Chip

Second, and more important, is the new Intel Haswell chip line that is due to finally show up in Windows Ultrabook laptops this fall. Continue reading

In the last 30 days, Microsoft has released three major Office app suites for the iPhone and iPad including Outlook, a Word-Excel-PowerPoint suite, and OneNote. All are free, and their functionality is very good. However, access to two of these three apps is quite restricted.

Here’s the lowdown on each one.

Fall Release of New Mail App Is much Closer to Outlook in Functionality

July 14, 2013

Microsoft demoed last week a new version of its Windows tablet Mail app that I think represents the direction for all Microsoft Office functions on the Windows 8 Metro (tile) interface.

I postulated in this article that one thing needed for Windows tablets to take off is a line of Metro apps that can, for most people, fully replace their desktop copies of Office. Eventually, I am hoping that Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook will all have powerful Metro app equivalents. These apps would be true Metro apps—they launch into a full screen with no desktop. They would be much more touch-friendly than the current desktop Office applications. But they would also be much more feature-rich than anything we’ve seen in the current Metro apps, essentially replacing their desktop equivalents for nearly all uses and users.

Microsoft’s Outlook RT Preview: Outlook for Low-Cost Windows Tablets

June 29, 2013

The big news for Windows 8 RT tablets this week is that Outlook RT is out as part of the Windows 8.1 Preview that was just released.  Windows 8.1 Preview is a sneak peek at the next big windows release coming later this year. It fixes things like adding back in a start button (sort of) and allowing boot directly to desktop, and a ton of other improvements.

But being the Outlook Productivity Guy, my interest is in the Outlook RT that comes with it. Let’s face it, if you can pick up an iPad-sized tablet that runs a full copy of Outlook for $299, with Outlook included free, that’s important for anyone who relies on Outlook and has been yearning for a cheap tablet to run it on. Convert E-mail to Tasks in TaskUnifier

May 27, 2013

Last week I wrote about TaskUnifier for Toodledo (see this article: http://www.oneminutetodolist.com/blog/taskunifier-program-a-solution-for-using-toodledo-off-line/)

Well, I got a note reminding me that TaskUnifier also has an Outlook plugin that helps convert emails into tasks in TaskUnifier. Read more about that here:
