New Pocket Informant Android Configuration Video for MYN and ToodleDo

Aug 9, 2011

If you’ve been following my newsletters you know that I recommend you use ToodleDo as your task server software if you cannot use Outlook with Microsoft Exchange Server. The beauty of ToodleDo is that you can use it with a web browser, an iPad or iPhone, or with android. All of these platforms have good MYN-compatible software solutions.

The software I’ve been recommending for Android is called Pocket Informant Android. I have a blog entry about it here.

Well, I just released a new video on how to configure Pocket Informant Android f or MYN. You can watch that video by going to this page. There you’ll find detailed instructions for how to set up Pocket Informant Android, showing videos of all the settings screens and so on. Check it out.

    Michael,
First of all let me say that your MYN system is a breath of fresh air after constantly tripping over holes in GTD for years. I’ve been using MYN since the 2nd edition and shortly after migrated away from Outlook to Gmail, Gcal and ToodleDo.

What I wanted to add to this post is that I have found the best Android ToodleDo compatible app in “Ultimate Todo List”. I’m not affiliated with them just a very happy customer. Its a powful todo list that seamlessly links with Toodledo and excellent filters. They have an active development and a forum where users vote on the importance of requested features.

    Thanks again.
    Shawn

I’m a MYN’er and Toodledo’er as well, and I’d like to recommend MyLifeOrganized (MLO) again. Not affiliated with them but it makes outlook tasks look amateur. All the things I wished outlook would do are already done in MLO. It has no web interface, but I’m not sure you need one if you have it installed on your phone and syncing to the cloud. In any case, I’m not using Toodledo, even though I just re-subscribed, since I bought MLO. I think you could write another MYN book about MLO and you wouldn’t have to continually propose work-arounds for fundamental capabilities. In fact, you could probably extend and add to your recommendations in other areas.

Hi all, I purchased pocket informant and noticed that the video and instructions are a little outdated. This version that I have, 1.51 build 5103 doesn’t sync with toodledo properly and I am currently working with thier tech support to figure out what the problem is. It won’t sync unless I disable syncing the alarms, and when it does sync, it creates many duplicates of my contexts. In my opinion its a bug in the sync part of the program.

Lee, you are right a new version came out since this post. I did not experience the issues with the sync that you describe in that new version , but I have no doubt the PI folks will get them fixed. As to the age of our video, yes, we recently created a newer video to match the new version, but are no longer going to update all videos in the blog, but rather, we collected all related videos together into a free video page for our new book The One Minute To-Do List. The videos have all been updated and are now all presented within context with that book, which explains the whole approach and how it all fits together. Go get a free PDF copy of that book here: http://www.michaellinenberger.com/free1MTD.htm. Then follow the links in the book to the free videos, where you will find the new PI Android video. Hope that helps.

Thanks Michael, I like the track you are taking with your new book. Also, I just dumped MLO for android, got a refund on Pocket Informant and, like Shawn above ( after evaluating it for a week) have purchased Ultimate ToDo List for android. I have not found one thing wrong with it except the UI is a little ugly. I think there’s nothing wrong with ugly if it does what its supposed to and pleasantly suprises. 😉
